This is actually quite simple for anyone who knows how to generally run a computer. I'm posting this in response to someone saying "How do I play WoW at school."
Well, a lot of schools, or I'd say a good 99% of schools block almost anything from getting downloaded / installed onto computers. Your way around this is actually not installing anything, but running it off of your Ipod or external hard drive device.
It's quite simple:
1) Plug in your external hard drive into its firewire or usb slot (firewire is faster, BUT, most school computers don't have firewire slots due to their old age and the new firewire technology)
2) Give your computer a moment to connect with the new hardware. After maybe 20 seconds, open up My Computer, or go to C:\ where your hard drive or Ipod should be. Open up your external hard drive and let it load.
3) Now, take your ENTIRE World of Warcraft folder (or any other game, say, Age of Empires) and copy and paste it inside of the external hard drive. After the Burning Crusade, WoW takes ~9 GB of space, so make sure your hard drive has the space for it.
4) Let it load up into the external hard drive. It really doesn't take long for a computer to transfer 9 GB of files, so it should take around 10-20 minutes depending.
5) Once thats done, disconnect your hard drive device, and hook it up to any computer you want to play WoW on.
Instructions for opening it up:
It's really simple, just like loading a CD or any game that doesn't automatically install itself, go to My Computer and open up the hard drive, click on the folder and play it from there.
Question:
Well, I did all the steps, I saw it on my Ipod, but when I got to school, I couldn't find the hard drive.
Answer:
My school, and I'd assume most schools remove My Computer and C:\ from access. The way I did it was by RIGHT CLICKING on the school computers desktop, and go to --> New --> New Folder --> 'Name it whatever'. Open the folder and at the top will be a URL spot. Click on the down arrow, and it SHOULD SHOW your external hard drive, saying "Mike's Hard Drive" or "Jordan's Ipod." Open that up and it will show the files.
Remember, don't add any files to the computer, because most likely it isn't a computer that you need to put files on. This is a great way to install WoW on to any computer, simply copy the files FROM the Ipod on to another computer.
And please,
Feel free to play at work.
Just don't get fired.
Anyways, any questions, ask me, it's really simple.
