Another Frost bolt exploit

When your on a mage with max shatter, and imp range on frost nova you can cast a frost bolt then spam frost nova and the frost bolt will get the shatter effect right as it hits. This is hard to do but i did it a few times on my mage. the monster needs to be just far enough away for it to work sheeping then trying it works sometimes.

i mean really, i don't get what the hell you mean with the whole spell stuff.. but it just sounds like that when it works it's just because you are lucky to get a crit -.-

Hmm kinda useless. All you do is make sure the frost nova effects hits the enemy while the frostbolt is still on it's way.

I dont think it works because a crit or hit is determined when the spell finishes casting, NOT when it lands on the target.

having several mages, i can assure you, that this works. there are 2 ways to do the shatter combo.

1. Frost Nova, then Blink out. From that range, start casting frostbolt. The moment your frostbolt leaves your hand, press ice lance. The damage is calculated

2. If you have your Water elemental out. Start casting frost bolt, click on the water elementals frost nova, and cast it on your opponent, a second before you cast your frosbolt followed by ice lance. The only thing with this is that you need to start casting frostbolt before your water elemental does, otherwise the waterelemental's bolt will break the frostnova.

It is much easier if you make the second one into a macro. The second is more useful for pvp as it prevents them from breaking out. That combo is a guaranteed 5k crit.

I assumed the first one is pretty fairly well known. The second maybe not.

forgot to add that the damage is calculated when the lance leaves your hand, not on contact, so the way described in the first post wouldn't really work.

the cast (any cast) "desides" if it has the shatter bonus when it leaves the hand.
The cast will not be effected by shatter bonus if the target wasn't frozen when it left the hand.
