Sorry to resurrect a two-year old thread, but I've made extensive use of this trick and I think it may finally be fixed. Currently if I type in even ridiculous banned names that no one would ever take, on the Russian client it gives me the same error message as if I'd tried to use a name already in use. Thank you so much to OP for giving this great find that lasted so long! If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me, but I've used it for two years and suddenly it's not working.

Hey, 12/8-18 - Still works EU, just:

Step 4: Modify "enUS" (or whatever they are set as) to "ruRU"

Instead of typing ''ruRU'' in step 4, type ''itIT''.

Hahahah, this still works! I just created a character on an EU server named Idiot. Ifart worked too. Not all names work though. I also set mine to italian instead of russian, because russian was giving me some error message when trying to pick servers. Couldn't pick my own, kept kicking me out. I am even able to change name of a level 120 character to something obscene, which I feel like doing very much. It takes me to payment processing and everything. Obviously a waste of money, but its hillarious to me. Thanks for this!!
