Having the Same name as a boss Exploit

Fair enough, not truly a boss breaking exploit at all, if it could be deleted that's fine
Basically if you have the same name as the boss, your recount will act as if you have been doing the same abilities the boss has cast and therefor your dps can potentially be miles ahead of the group.
IE:Elegon Ultraxion, and Shannox.
(Hard hitting bosses or bosses with AOE mechanics)
I would consider this breaking the "useless" rule but mods can decide, thanks!

Really needs some screenshots, because from a coding point of view that makes absolutely no sense. The only potentially logical explanation is that your bigwigs/skada was incorrectly attributing the damage to you.

I can backup that recount only tracks combat log by NAME, so if your namned A and the boss is namned A, so everytime A does dmg you gain damage according to recount and other ranking systems, world of ranks ignores this tho, i used to name myself "shannox" and do Firelands (back in the days) just to get 70% dmg done of the grp cause of this, was funny


but as op is saying "the name have you do things" is not true. the boss does them and not you, but on recount it shows up under your name doing x ability on x

so in fact its not an exploit, but a string flaw in recount. your not doing the spells yourself.

Can confirm this does work, we had a mage called Ultraxion back in cata doing like 80% of the groups damage because of this. But it isn't as OP described, you aren't casting the abilities. It is just recount (not sure if it is the same for Skada) with bad coding that only calculates via names, nothing else.

Also it obviously only works on the boss you share a name with.

This is correct it is just a parsing glitch, because the boss has an identical name and skada/recount parse the combat log not anything else.

There is a macro you can use to add a massive amount of damage into recount's parse if you're just going for lolz. I don't recall it offhand but I could probably find it somewhere if anyone is interested. I used to spam it during T11 hardmodes to show up as doing like 500k dps just to mess with people

That's a big lie, it is only forbidden and a violation on RP servers, the non-RP servers doesn't have any name regulation except that you are not allowed to use offensive names.
