Okay, this happend to me when I was summoned for Steamvaults on my Hunter, he's what happend exactly.

I was flying around Blade's Edge Mountains on my flying mount(60% speed) awaiting my summon. My group used the meeting stone to summon me, I accepted, during the loading screen I got disconnected. When I logged back in I was standing by the meeting stone and running on FOOT, able to cast spells and abilities, at my mount's movement speed.

I didn't have time to test this as I had to do my Steamvaults run and I havn't tried it again since, may have just been a one-time thing, or maybe patched, dunno.

I assume you could be summoned while mounted, close WoW while it's loading, then log back in. Worth a shot, but the Steamvault one might not be the best since it's underwater.

Also, I couldn't fly dismounted, so don't ask. ^.^
