not sure if its exploit, but when u fall and feel that u might die, just get your sheild wall up. then u will get like 20% of fall dmg.

p.s. sheild wall also saves from onyxia deep breaths

Uh, you don't even have to use shield wall. A warrior at full health can just switch to defensive stance, 10% damage reduction, fall as far as you want and you can live, same with a druid and barkskin, or anything else that can reduce damage like that, but not mages, you used to be able to use mana shield for falling and drowning damage, but blizz removed that.
