questions about core files

i have kription repack and source.
i can get the server running fine, but when i try to change a few things, they dont "stick".

i was told that i require the source in order to permanently edit server files, but im not sure how to use/edit them.

do i need to add them to sql to edit them? if so, how?
do i need a special program?
after editing them how do i incorporate what ive changed into the server?


programs im currently using/trying are heidisql, kiera3

you need to use something like visual studio to edit the c++ source and compile it yourself

whats the difference between the repack's core and source? trying to fully understand how everything is handled/run.
most 'guides' are just on how to quickly setup the server, they dont go into detail about what does what.
repack came with core, server, source, and a register site.

its 3.3.5a, trinity if that makes a difference
