[1.12.1] What is the best core to work with for 1.12.1 that is publicly available?

Greetings. In the past i did work with Arcemu back in WoTLK and if i am not mistaken Ascent in TBC. I had my own server and had some friends and played around with C++ trying to make stuff myself. I am currently looking to create a test server for myself based on the 1.12.1 client. So just to revise my title. What is the current best core I should grab and use for this? Links are appreciated if possible!
