How can I change existing items in the database?

I've just been screwing around on a personal server, and in the repack I'm using, someone has modded Val'anyr (with the correct ID) to have different stats/requirements. Can this be done directly through the DB, or is there an external program I need?

You can run a simple SQL query (if it's in sql).. Something like

UPDATE tablename SET Columnname = Value, Columnname2 = Value2 WHERE ID = ID value

Aye just make sure ID is unique, if not you can include a double check something like:

UPDATE tablet SET X = y WHERE ID = ID AND ItemName = itemname

Just so you don't update the living crap out of the database =)

Okay, I'm a noob with this stuff. Can anybody link me to a basic format for what I'm trying to do?

EDIT: JK I figured it out. But it doesn't update the items description. How do I make it do that?

Like, I changed thunderfury to have 500 agil/800 stam. In game it shows 5 agi/8 stam but when I put it on those values go up by 500/800. How do I change the actual words on the item?

Download navicat and connect it to your server.
Go into the item_template table in the world database
Find your item... (CTRL-F search?)
Edit the item, be sure to make it sexy and make it rain lol.
Save and restart
