Connecting a modified WOW.exe to a Private Server

I haven't played WOW in years but have recently decided to get back into it but since WOW no longer uses a realmlist.wtf, I can't figure out how to get a modified wow.exe to connect to private server namely MoltenWoW and Pandashan. (I like to play with model edits such as race swaps and the like.) Some people have said that changing the config.wtf will allow it to connect, but it does seem to help when I try. I looks as though connection information is now included in the .exe itself. If anyone can shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated.

It still uses realmlist. It is a CVAR in config.wtf. The realmlist only works for the GRUNT protocol (no email username).

To use a email as username you need to edit realmlistbn, which is hardcoded into battle.net.dll (Battle.net 2 protocol).
