    Need a guide on how to set up a private server in hostgator?

    I want to make hostgator run my private server, but i have no idea how to do it.. I have just heard that it is possible.

    Hostgator is websites, not servers I'm afraid...

    So no it's not possible. The only thing you could do is have a domain point towards your server where-ever you host it.

    On the contrary, hostgator does provide dedicated servers. I hosted my first WoW server with them for more then a few months.

    OP, Two things:
    • Find a generic thread on how to set up a private server, and do that on a dedicated server that you purchase through the company.
    • I recommend SingleHop over Hostgator. I've worked with both and SingleHop provides better service and performance for relatively the same price.

    It is just like setting up a regular private server.

    The only difference is that you are not doing it on your own computer.

    Windows is a lot easier to set up on, but Linux is a lot more stable
