can't log into wotlk

Hi, I am looking for a WotLK private server, and of course I've found a few. and when I would go there and make an account and then change my realmlist.wtf to what it says, but then, when I load up WoW, it's just like it's on retail. It won't let me login. I'm on version 3.0.3.9183 and I have WotLK installed.

ok first close out of WoW
then change the realmlist.wtf file again.
Don't forget to save. Then start up wow.

My realmlist is changed. when I load up wow it still doesn't work.

Are you changing the Old realmlist that you had previously before installing WOTLK? they moved the Realmlist that the game actually uses to your Data folder in the WOW directory.. Maybe you arent changing the right one.

Ok, I finally got it to work. But only for one server. I logged into the server, didn't like it as it was empty so I close WoW, open my realmlist.wtf, change it, save, then try it again, and it says it cannot connect.. help.

1) Again, be sure you are changing the realmlist file in \World of Warcraft\Data\enUS\realmlist.wtf and not in the WoW root folder.
2) Be sure you include "set realmlist" before the server url.
3) Be sure the server is actually up and that their dyndns url is pointing to the right place. You can test by pasting the url into your browser or by pinging it and making sure it resolves.

I tried all these things and it doesn't work. The weird thing is if I go back and put the old server url in of the one that worked, it works.

Some servers still require that beta version of wotlk, maybe that's the same server you're using?
