[Guide] Give A User Permission to Access Your Database

Hello MMOwned community! I will show you how to give access to your database for another person, like your friend. Basicially what it does is it lets your friend enter your database to execute things and such. You should have your server/MySQL installed and ready. Otherwise look around MMOwned to find how to make a server. Do not ask about anything other than this.

    This is written for SQLyog!

Step ONE ) Make sure you have "Remote Access" enabled. If you are not sure, open up Start > All Programs > MySQL > MySQL Server 5.0 (or whatever you have) > MySQL Server Instance Config Wizard. Open it up and choose "Reconfigure Instance" and then "Standard Configuration" fill in the security settings and check off "Enable root access from remote machines" and "Execute". Then you are good to go.

Step TWO ) Open up SQLyog and log in. If you can't log in because your trial is finished, then move your mouse to the grey part and hit "Enter"...that should get you past the pop-up and into the Editor. (Credits go to Illidan1 for finding this out)

Step THREE ) Hit Ctrl + U to open up the "Add User" screen --OR-- to do it manually, go to Tools > User Manager > Add User

Step FOUR) Now fill in Username, Password, Confirm Password, and for Host you can either put your hostname (if your server is public) or your external ip (www.whatismyip.com). If you are giving access to another computer in your house, you can put your internal ip (Start > Run > cmd > ipconfig) Now check off the privileges you want your user to have. After, click "Create".

Step FIVE (optional) ) If you want more advanced privileges, hit Ctrl + Shift + W --OR-- Tools > User Manager > Manage Permissions. Edit whatever you need.

Step SIX ) Your user should be able to connect to your database from his computer now. All he has to do is change MySQL host address to your host (you got this from step three) and the User/Pass you created for him.

And VOILA!! Your friend will now be able to edit your database from his computer!

WARNING: Only trust close people... otherwise your server can seriously damaged!
