    Good places for GM malls

I haven't posted any emu post in a while so I thought I should again.

NOTE: No place is truly safe from hackers...(I am one myself) The best defense is secrecy. Have your gms keep quiet about the mall, or else they will lose their powers

    Places
    1. Underwater in a remote location (such as by the swamp of sarrows in the ocean)

    2. Instances...who goes in BRD in a private server?

    3. Underneath orgrimmar or stormwind

    4. In some distant mountain range

    5. Right in plain sight!...make the npcs very very small until you can not see them. Make it where you have to use a macro to select them.

Hopefully many private server admins/gm find this useful. Please leave your feedback if this was helpful, useful, or etc...

I hate it when people mention +Rep in their signatures...oh wait...fail

Only thing I have to say is dont do it under a city. Hackers can hack right under them. Also, instances can be a little risky. I mean, you're right, who would go in an instance in a private server? Maybe someone is bored one day and just decides to travel to an instance... They would be surprised.... :P But, this is a good guide nonetheless...

Good places for GM malls: NO WHERE.
Honestly, you have .additem for a reason. There is no need for a mall that players CAN AND WILL access.

Yeah its best not to have a GM mall... But when I did have one, I flew up in the sky really really high and put a house up there.

Thats a good idea, but hackers can still possibly reach it.

IMO make one in Emerald Forest, just drop a small/large house and place your vendors.

Its a great location to be honest.

Nope, dont put it there... People can easily get there by hacking... Easily. Like Gastric said, you probably shouldnt have a mall. But you can in some places just dont make them too obvious. :P

IF you need a mall (just what GP said: .additem is your friend).
Model Edit a small piece of land somewhere in empty space and put them there.
Just give the .MPQ to your admins/GMs (not too much trouble)

Heh i think the best place for a GM mall it is to go and spawn a building on the air and put the npcs or whatever you are looking for inside, then lock it with invisible wall and make a teleport to there only for GM's like .rec p (Teleport)

    Mall Defense

Ok, this is long winded, but I get that way quite often, bare with me, lol.

Ok, no matter where you put an NPC, people can get to it, of course "how do you get to an island that can't be found except by those who already know where it is ?" this strategy of hiding it in some random, obscure location requiring teleport and or fly hacks and an immense amount of spare time to find and get to, yes can certainly reduce the chance that someone may find it, but you can't truly keep an area secure by those means when you're intentionally allowing the general public to access your system. "If you build it, they will come" :P

That first part is fact, the rest, is mostly theory.

If you insist on having a mall, and having vendors that you don't want people to access ... create a custom faction, or even find a small, nearly useless one, and steal it's ID ... then either delete all the NPC's from that faction, or simply change their faction ... then you make all your GM only gear and it's vendor(s) require exalted rep with that faction to interact with, and with no way for a player to attain that rep, the items would then be untouchable.

Another security idea I had was a guard design ... invisible mob ... one billion of all stats, 50,000 yard combat range, 0.01 sec attack speed, 255 (max value) movement speed, the ability to fly, one millisecond respawn time (just in case, lol) and a good knockback ability, this should effectively keep people from the vendors, lol. Or if you want to catch them instead of just keep them out you could use a no-cooldown polymorph (or other disabling spell, some boss spell maybe, somthing nobody is immune to or can likely escape from) and a script that announces the trespasser's name in global chat, lol.

Or my mastermind of an idea (likely not possible) have a set of invisible vendors hiding inside or under some game object somewhere, impossible to click on. Then create a new item held only by the redemption vendors (the guys that give the stuff from the card game or collector's edition) requiring a unique code that you must activate in the system yourself before they can redeem it. The item would be usable only at the vendor location, which is in a gm only instance. you would right-click to summon an NPC that would only speak to it's summoner and who would then then call those vendor lists through a gossip menu... effectively creating a key to those items.

    Anyone think it's possible ?
