WoW Emulator for odd versions

Hey! It has been... Many, many years since I've posted in here
As the title states, is there any emulator that would allow me to play the game with an odd version.
What constitutes an odd version you ask? For example Vanilla patch 1.8 (Dragons of Nightmare). You know? Not the last version of a given expansion. Another version that I am interested is 4.1.X, but I am much less concerned about that one.

I am not interested in fluent experience, just something that will not crash. If there are no scripts, the talents are not working, etc, it's all fine with me. If I can repurpose an existing emulator so it can be used with a different version - great! I just need to know how to do that.

I recall, long, long ago, you were able to connect to the same private server with multiple different versions... If someone has an ancient core like that, I am very much fine to use it as well.

As humorous as it sounds, I need to this for research purposes.
