how much Ram and how big Hard drive do i need ?

ram: 2gb will be enough
hard drive: if you have a HD of like 100gb its more then enough lol
you need a good connection speed to run a lagg free server... that is the most important thing

100 mb/s internet connection
uninstall every program you haven't used in over three months+delete folder
defragment your pc every 3 days
do disc cleanup every 1-2 weeks before defragment.
remember anti virus and firewall, make sure you can set firewall exceptions.
try not to multi tab much on the computer if you play on the comp running your server
if your server is on a dedicated host, make sure to disable all the fancy display stuff, just plain old one color background, low color quality.
have your high speed internet company disable filters on cable internet
you can sometimes use USB drives to speed up your computer.
if you know how to add RAM to your PC, its a good idea. just dont cross mix ram types...
no break (just in case lol)


by the way... theres a few handy programs around there to speed up specific processes or your internet it general. make sure your ethernet card can handle the maxx capacity of your internet.


But before you go this far in to building a server which you have to pay for, accumulate some members, learn some mroe about computer operations in the operating system you plan to use, and get two or three other database/ingame admins and a few GMs, because with alot of members things can get hectic, and you will need to be able to counteract attacks fast(personal experience )

well i have a P3, 512mb, 500gb hard drive, 5mbs of bandwith
and it runs without any lag what so ever!

Atleast 512 megabytes of ram, though 1-2 gigabytes are much better.
50+ Gigabyte hard drive
2ghz processor
Atleast 1.5mb/sec internet connection. My server runs with this and can handle up to 15 people with 100ms latency.

-Atleast 2 gigs of RAM
-Atleast 100gb hard drive
-Atleast 3ghz processor
-100mb/sec or faster internet connection
Good GM's to keep hackers from lagging or crashing the server
