[Help]Where to buy a dedicated server?

I am properly buying from VPSLand.com (and setting up my server)

But if there are other places that are good, please link as I want a really good one.



Also, which is better, Linux or windows?

and which is easier to setup

windows as you don't have the hassle of compiling under Linux.

Windows is also expensive, so if your budget is tight consider learning how to compile under linux.

Other then us being down for 15+ hours now due to an explosion in the data center. Dedicated Servers & Web Hosting | Managed Web Hosting Services | The Planet offers some really nice Win boxes at really good pricing. They have 5 data centers and has much as I am fustrated with this act of god in the data center i'm housed in.. I still have to say their service is top notch.

Even with this being what you could consider a natural disaster. They already announced they will be offering pro-rates off service as via the SLA.

i use godaddy vps on windows...that way u get remote desktop connection and can work on your server from there...and download the files manually onto that computer..if u use windows ur gonna need permedit to allow mysql and stuff since security is so high with windows servers

so Godaddy,VPSland, and ThePlanet? are the best 3 for hosting a server?

I have always gone with Godaddy. Their prices may be a little higher than others but I've never had a problem with them.

Plus you can get a Windows VPS for about $36/month, which isn't going to run the biggest and best server but if you only plan on housing 50 or so players it should be fine.

Remember, don't shell out insane amounts of money until you start getting donations, etc. for your work. Once you have a large player base and more money to play around with you can upgrade your server.

I recommend going with windows too, a lot easier to administrate.

Mmk, I got from VPSLAND the first month = 14.50 then 29, 2D suggested it to me, he said it should be able to hold 75 people, and it is easy upgradable, so I'll stick with VPSland.

Thanks for all the sites, once my server gets big enough, i am going to head over to ThePlanet though.
