Scythe of the Unmaker (recolor)

Hi there, im embarking on my journey into WoW model editing, i saw somewhere you can use 3DS Max to edit models best, i took a few years courses in this program so i should be able to do *something* my question is: What would be the best avenue to pursue in order for me to recolor this scythe as well its animation into purple rather than blue. I believe the coloring process could be quite simple, but i wanted to ask if anyone already has experience making recolors such as these. Any information you may have is very useful. Thanks
