    Shadow Fang Keep Guide

Heres a Shadow Fang Keep Guide

Shadowfang Keep is located in the far south of Silverpine forest. Silverpine forest is Horde controlled area in the north in the Eastern Kingdoms. It is generally the second zone that Undead players explorer. It is realtivly easy for Horde players to reach at the correct level, however it takes a little more effort for Alliace to reach.

    Time

Shadowfang keep is a small instance but contains tons of MOBs for its size. It takes approximately 60 minutes to 2 hours, depending on party level and skill.

    Levels

Shadowfang Keep is meant for characters level 22-30. The ideal range is around 24-26. You can continue to make loot and experience runs through SFK to about level 32, but after that the experience gains are not worth the effort.

The MOBs in Shadowfang Keep range from 18 to 24 normal and 20 to 24 elite. Most of the MOBs in the instance are elite 20-24 so do not count on fighting all that many nomal MOBS. In addition the named or Boss MOBs are up to 25 elite and can be very difficult for low level groups.

    Map

    Shadowfang
    Keep Map

We have put together a map that shows the layout of Shadowfang Keep and marks the location of all the key named MOBs and the key locations. While moving through the instance you go up several levels and go out of the dungeon to walk along the keeps walkways. This makes maping the instance difficult. We have chosen to break the map up into pieces and provide links showing how they connect. The connections are marked as green lines on the map.

    Screen Shots

We have a gallery for screen shots from Shadowfang Keep that can be found here.

    Tactics

The MOBs in Shadowfang Keep range up to 24 elite and are generally found in groups of 2-3, with the occasional group of 4 or 5. Groups are often found close together so pulls must be done with caution. Low level players will also need to be worried about aggro range and hang back when fighting occurs in areas surrounded by other MOB's.

Being a level 20-30 instance, with the MOBs being 20-25 elite you will HAVE to work together as a team, especially if you are at the low end of the level scale. Most players in the correct level range will not be able to handle an elite MOB of their level or higher on their own. The best tactic to deal with this is to designate a single player to pull MOBs and be careful to not pull anything other than what is planned. If you are the puller always plan the pull carefully. This means, watching for patrols, movement of MOBs, and party health and mana. If you do these things even a party of all 20-25 characters stands an excellent chance at finishing the instance.

There are several key tactical issues to keep in mind for this specific instance.

Several of the MOB's have some sort of anti-caster ability. For example the Shadowfang darksoul werewolves are immune to all shadow damage and the Undead guardsment can cast an AOE silence. It is important to spot these units and ensure your casters and healers know to stay away from them and to have some other form of damage available.

Most of the MOBs in the instance will not flee, so you do not ahve to pull back as far as you normally would to give yourself time to react.

After defeating Fenrus the Devourer be preparef for 4-6 voidwalkers to swarm into to the room and attack. There is very little time to react after killing Fenrus, so ensure the group knows this will happen and saves some mana and health.

While fighting Aragul he will teleport around the room. When he does so it is critical that you let the tank re-gain aggro before stating to dps him again. Ensure everyone knows that they should stop healing or DPS'ing as soon as he teleports and run to a pre-set spot so that no matter who he aggro's the tank can pck him up again.

    Party Composition
As this is still a low level instance, party composition does not play a huge factor. The bigger factor will be player levels. You need to ensure that you have at least a one player at the upper end of the level range to help out against the named MOBs, preferably the Tank (or warrior) of the group.

As in any group you will want someone in the party that can heal and someone who can tank. Other than that though, unless you are very low on the level scale you should be ok with almost anything. Tactics and player ability with their characters come into play far more at this early stage in the game that party composition does in the late game (55+).

While Shadowfang Keep can be done with almost any mix of classes, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Priests are always useful, and the fact that most mobs are undead makes priests even more desirable.
A lot of the mobs are anti-caster in nature. Such as silence from guardsmen, shadow magic immune werewolves, etc. As a result non-caster characters can be a blessing here, such as Rogues, Warriors and Hunters.
    Quests
There are 5 quests to be completed in Shadowfang Keep. 3 of them are faction specific quests for the Horde, while the other 2 are class specific, 1 for Paladins (Alliance) and 1 for Warlocks (both factions). What follows is a brief outline of each quest, where to collect it, and how to complete it.
