Is fire going to be a viable arena spec?

Well my title basically sums up my question i really miss deep fire and with all mages getting ice block will fire be possible and if so with what composition/martix? either in 2v2 or 3v3

How low in the frost tree will icy veins be? is it low enough to pick up with DB?

Is fire going to be a viable arena spec?

Fire = Bust damage, So you'll certainly be intimidating, Burst damage sure packs a punch psychologically, which is what 50% of what the outcome of a match is

Frost = Longevity and being very annoying. Assisting on kills.

And if arena, Always go /Arcane when you pick fire or frost.

The only difference will be the IB, will make u survive 10 sec more, that's all.
U will be focused and pownd by all dps class.

Barrier and root spells are definitely a must-have for a mage in arena, to survive more than 20 sec after the begining of the fight.

I'm SL/SL lock, 12K5 HP and 410 res, a nice geared warrior/rogue/beast hunt pown me in 15 sec without heal.
Imagine a fire specced mage. No tanking skills, no efficients snares/roots, no chance, just cry at 1850+ rating.

Actually, deep fire is a fun pvp spec...in BGs.

Nope. It will be something to BG as, the IB buff helps in PvE when you pull agro, but not in arenas. I could MAYBE see it happening in a 4 DPS setup for 5s, but otherwise no.

they are still kinda squishy since they don't have ice barrier :S, they also lack the external pet DPS mage's get when they are cc/silenced

i cant imagine them getting very far up the arena ladders

Look, one spell won't change it. Frost still got better survival abilites and imo is still the best arena specc

I agree. Maybe we'll see more scrubs being pyro in 4 dps caster setups? It's like the only viable setup maybe. Even now though 4dps teams aren't even that scary with the disc changes.

I missed out on gladiator in 2's by about 30 points on my mage last season, and personally I think that it really isn't that much of a buff to fire. In the lower brackets sure it will help when a priest doesn't know where his mass dispel button is while he spends 10 years clicking it. It might help then, but really I feel iceblock is a little over-rated nowadays. Same with Soullink

Don't get me wrong, I love iceblock and it saved me alot when i did arean with my mage but i really can't see it helping a fire mage.

17/0/44 and 0-7-54 are my favroute specs for arena.

    Nope.

It's viable for 1600 - 1800 but despite what WOM thinks 17/0/44 or even deeper frost will always be better.

Winter's Chill/R1 FB/Polymorph anyone? Fire doesn't have much utility where as Frost does.

Fire just doesn't have the burst required for 3's and 5's.

    Besides, roll a Warlock dude.

Actually ATM I am mostly Arcane, For the +spell dmg increase, and fire. I do pretty good in arena. I am in with a Lock atm and we leveled our 2v2 up to 1850 last night. So Fire is pretty good, IF you know how to play well. You pretty much need to know what and when a class will do something. Once u get that down u can be pretty much any spec and pwn.
