How to add port for win XP firewall mini guide
Ok my first little guide for those that need help opening ports for windows xp firewall as I know some people don't know how but it's pretty easy really.
I am writing this for those who have the security warning come up when they hit execute during configuration of MySQL.
Step 1: Open up My Computer -> Control Panel (mines in left frame, see pic)
Step 2: Select "Security Center"
Step 3: Scroll down window until you see these 3 icons and select "Windows Firewall"
Step 4: Click the middle tab labeled "Exceptions" up the top
Step 5: Select "Add Port" down the bottom
Step 6: Type a name in for your new port (I usually choose something that will remind me what the port does if I want to remove it later on).
Step 7: Add the port #. For the purpose of MySQL the port # will be 3306 and leave the port set as TCP.
Don't worry about "Change Scope" just leave it!
Click Ok and thats it your done! Head back to MySQL setup and hit the retry button. You might have to go back a step for it to register.
Hope this helps someone.

EDIT: Hopefully this is in the right spot.
EDIT: As Devil pointed out there are many different firewall apps people use and also different OS's. I unfortunately can't give advice on all of them and will try and add some for MAc & Linux users but doing it for all firewalls is impossible. Obviously this is just for those who use the generic windows firewall.
I hate windows but I don't have time to play around with the computer too much anymore.
