How to REALLY dps as a hunter (Common Sense tbh)

After reading the other guide, which completely failed.. (Level 60 dps != Level 70 dps)
I tried to write my own little guide, get you to do some damage :-)

Firstly,
get a nice spec..
(e.g. Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft )

Get Quartz
( Quartz | World of Warcraft @ Curse )

Quartz will magically throw a little casting bar that shows when your next attack will be made on your screen. This is very useful for timing your steady shots.

Basically, your shot rotation will look like this
(at the beginning of a fight)

Misdirect the tank
Aimed shot
(Now the part you'll be repeating ^^)
Steady Shot
Auto Shot
Steady Shot
Auto Shot
Steady Shot
Auto Shot
Steady Shot
Auto Shot
Steady Shot
Auto Shot
Steady Shot
Auto Shot

etc =)
Arcane Shot and Multishot will only **** up your shot timer and cost a lot of mana.
At the beginning of the fight (if its a boss fight) I would use Beastial Wrath + Trinkets so it's up at the end of the fight as well (2x Beastial Wrath, YES PLEASE!)
Feign death when your threat gets too close to the tank, do NOT fd / drink, but keep going.. If you find you have a lot of mana issues go get Mark of Conquest. ( Mark of Conquest - Items - World of Warcraft ). Procs a lot and on a regular boss fight (5-6 minutes) it gives me back about 1k, 1.5k.. So it's a very good trinket, which allows you to keep going for a longer time.

Honestly, just doing steady shot, auto shot, steady shot, auto shot isn't good. My shot rotation (And it works well, I top DPS all the time) is:

Steady Shot
Arcane Shot
Auto Shot
Steady Shot
Multi Shot
Auto Shot
Steady Shot
Arcane Shot

Steady Shot
Sting of your choice
Auto Shot
Repeat.

I'm a marksman hunter, if anyone wants my spec I'll give it...I normally have aspect of the viper on during boss fights to help with my mana, and if a pally is available get blessing of wisdom (BoM + Aspect of the Viper = Pwnage) to help even more. But yeah, thats my shot rotation and it works great.

You would pwn even more with a BM spec.

And regarding the spec, remove the points in endurance training, they wont help you at all. Put them in Animal Handler (a pet misses about 20% of his/hers attack) and Imp. mend pet. You only need 4/5 in frenzy to keep it up. So the pretty much optimal BM raid spec would be Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

For a BM hunter, Multi-Shot and Arcane Shot are a waste of time and mana, as he said. This is not the case for a Mark or Surv hunter, though. Also, no matter what spec, stings are a waste of mana. The only thing stings are good for is keeping rogues out of stealth.

with only steady shot and autoshot you will gimp your dps to smithereens.
and the mana you can afford, get pots, mana flask and use aspect of the viper when you hit 40% mana

i suggest, aimshot,
autoshot, steady
auto, multi
auto, arcane
auto, steady
auto, arcane

mana is a issue yes, but you can cut out the mutli when you start to get low,
do not skip arcane as it negates armor and gives you juicy crits against basically anything,
avoid kill command if you can, unless you are BM since kill command will postpone your autoshots

i cant argue with that..
but viper sting costs around what.. 300 mana? and does 500 damage?
300 mana = 3 steadyshots that can all crit and they seldom hit under 700 dmg

This shot rotation is pretty good. Also mana efficient for the most part. The only thing I like in there that is missing is Concussive Shot.

While in a raid you arent too worried about the boss chasing you, Concussive Shot does daze the target to amplify the steady shot damage. Once I started weaving Con Shot in every few rotations, I saw a good change in DPS
