What tools for reversing PoE are needed?

I am wanting to be able to help find structures and view the ac code.

I downloaded the freeware ida and had it open the pathofexile.exe application but it seemed to be calculating stuff for a long time so not sure if I loaded it correctly.

Is this the only program that I need to be able to find structures and their offsets or do I need to also run something like cheatengine or another debugger? Also since cheatengine and a debugger require the game to be running will this result in a ban? If so do you normally just create a throw away account for testing?

and how long does it take for ida to load something completely?

Also if there are any tutorials for the recommended programs that can be used that are great a link would be great (I will of course be googling for examples with the tools that are needed).

    IDA pro (find it somewhere),
    Ollydbg can be useful,
a good book on IDA (ex: The IDA Pro Book)
    a lot of time,
bindif is really useful for updates.
Some c knowledge is welcome, (F5 for C code)
And from there you can pretty much proceed to whatever you want to do.

Some x86 assembly knowledge will go a long, long way as well.

I suggest The Art of Assembly: AoATOC.html

Along with (some of what is listed above):

IDA/Ollydbg (Olly is free, IDA is expensive and if you want the nice tools, they are even more)
-addons of Olly/IDA that allow you to compare different exes (good for seeing what has changed)
A solid background in ASM and/or C++ (having both is very helpful here)
-see above link for best ASM book IMO
-a nice IDE for your favored codetype is also good to have
    Packet sniffer like Wireshark
-very helpful for seeing what is going on client/server communication
    TIME

Thanks for the responses. It has been been a while since I have worked with c or c++. Been doing c# for the last 6 years.

What are some of the oly and ida plugins that are helpful?
