I'm looking at making another UI enhancement like I did for FFXIV, but before I go dicking around inside archeage, I was wondering if hacksheild detects just reading memory or if only writing to it will cause problems.
thanks

Firstly, hackshield does not report any of the many false positives that may trip it and cause your game to crash, so toy around freely since you can always claim foul on hackshield's end. Secondly, the real problem lies in atttaching to the process and digging for information without hackshield getting in the way via being tripped. Due to these problems you're constrained to mostly just offline debugging unless you have a way to attach to the process and read the memory without hackshield detecting you.
It really depends on how you are bypassing hackshield to do the reading.
If you look up at some of the released WOW security measures, when they started adding things like CRC checks in functions like GetCursorPos that really screwed up things and made people look much harder at what changed from one patch to the next to try and avoid detection.
With trion's track record, I dont think you will start to see these kinds of detection methods for a long while (if ever) as they seem content to rely 100% on hackshield...but yea never know.
To answer your question, probably not.. but definitely not a 0% chance.
