So, trying to find the one creature's DisplayID that you need to make that uber guard? This is how! In this tutorial we will be finding the Display ID of an unsaddled black nether drake.
Get MyWarCraftStudio (Send big files the easy way. Files too large for email attachments? No problem!) and open it. Go to ***\World of Warcraft\Data and select the MPQ archive you think has the texture of the creature you want.
The black nether drake is in Common (no idea why...) Navigate to CREATURE\NetherDrake\NetherDrakeSkinBlack1.blp and copy down the name of the texture.
Now close common.mpq, and go to ***\World of Warcraft\Data\xxYY (xx = language you are using, and YY = region you use, so for US english, enUS) and open patch-xxYY (usually)
Open DBFilesClient
Now scroll down to CreatureDisplayInfo.dbc and open it.
A spreadsheet will pop up, with a few buttons in the upper right corner. Click Export CSV, and save it wherever you want.
Now open the CSV that you just exported with Notepad. Then hit Control-F, and type in the name of the texture you found earlier.
Now, look all the way to the left of the Notepad window. The first number in the same row as the texture name is the Display ID.
Experiment with Display IDs until you get the one you want. To experiment (noobs need to look at this) go onto your private server as a GM, and type .morph (display ID here) and see if it is the one you are looking for. If not, find another Display ID, and morph into that.
Enjoy. All credit goes to me, except the program.
