Hello i'm releasing a detailed guide how to reskin an armor set piece
In this guide I will demonstrate how to reskin a helmet called Crusader's helm.
Requirements:
-My warcraft studio
-Photoshop CS2 or CS3
-Notepad
-Modelviewer
-Model edit fix to let the edit work
-Importantst of all: Common sense!
-Blp converter
everything can be found at model ediitng programs sticky.
Start.
1.Start by going to Modelviewer
2.Choose any character and click on head gear,Look for Crusader's helm.
Ok now to get the blp for helmet,
Go to the view tab and click on model control,Then you'll see the m2 name of the helmet.
Now you got the name go to My warcraftstudio.
Choose File(F) then choose Open MPQ archive and look through common.mpq,Patchc.mpq and patch2.mpq to find youre blp.
We need Helm_Plate_D_04.blp,So i found it in common mpq but there were a lot of different color, try and search the look you have at modelviewer,I found it..It was Helm_Plate_D_04Goldblack.blp
OK now we got our blp,
You need to do 2things:
Extract it to youre wow folder(right click it and choose extract file to...then choose youre wow folder.
and Copy treepatch to notepad,(right click choose copy treepath, open notepad and paste)
and just minmize notepad and don't close it
OK Model editing time!
Ok first run the blp through the blp converter so you'll get a png file..Just really easy(make sure the converter is in wow folder too)just copy blp and paste onto converter..Then choose the npg and open it with Photoshop
Ok the quick photoshop Reskin tut.
To make more detailed work zoom in to the blp file a bit.
Ok to model edit use the Polygonal lasso tool to take lines around the part of the helm youre editing,It's just under the rectanguleer marquee tool
start the line and move it around the part you want to recolor and press everytime you want to move to the line to different direction, then return the line to the start
Ok here's pic when you moved it around the part
Now press ctrl-j to make a new layer and then ctrl-u to color the part(check colorize)
Just an example of a color i choosed,360Hue and 67saturation
Then it looks like this:
Now make it easy just change the color of the yellow part using the rectangular marquee tool..don't forget to change to layer0 or background layer first!!!
once again press ctrl-j again and ctrl-u
now it looks like this (example)
now it's kinda done so go to file..Save as..PNG file!!!
delete the copy.png text and do space back and then save..if it's the right name it will say "File helm_4_04_blackgold.blp already exists, overwrite" yes and then youre png has been overwrited with new color
Now go back to wow folder and delete the help blp file and then run the png through BLP converter again,Congratulatiosn you now got an edited blp..now here comes the part to add it to a patch.mpq
first make a map in the wow data folder called Item then in that map make a map called Objectcomponents and then in that map make a map called Armor and copy the edited blp and put it into the Armor map..
Now open My warcraft studio again..Choose Pack(P) then choose Create mpq archive...Create a patch called patch-6.mpq for example the patch can be called patch-3.mpq till patch-9.mpq
Now choose add file to archive then choose the ...button and go to the armor map and choose the helm's blp.then DONT PRES OK YET..remember the notepad?
open it and copy the Item\Objectcomponents\head part, pic:
then paste it before the blp text pic:
then hit ok and then save..You just edited youre helm YAHOO!!
run model edit fix and wear the helm in-game
Here's a qucik pic i took from th edited helm in Modelviewer:
Got to admit bad pic :<
