Hi folks,
I wonder if any of you is playing Tera online from a Virtual machine. In case yes, can you tell me how you do it? When I try to use VmWare, the game says "This application cant be used in a Virtual Machine".

Hi folks,

Ty!
vmware workstation 8
good luck running tera smoothly in a vm tho ><
im using vmw 8, and it still says this message...
Are you using it?
Try adding the following to the VM config file (vmx):
if that doesn't work, try addingmonitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "TRUE"
below the first line you added...monitor_control.virtual_rdtsc = "false"
isolation.tools.getPtrLocation.disable = "true"
isolation.tools.setPtrLocation.disable = "true"
isolation.tools.setVersion.disable = "true"
isolation.tools.getVersion.disable = "true"
monitor_control.disable_directexec = "true"

Tryed both, doesnt work
You restarted the VM after adding those lines, right?
Apparently, TERA specifically looks at the installed video driver, and blocks the vmware one. The only way I can think of to bypass that is to uninstall the vmware video driver, edit the vmware driver inf file and change the name from VMware SVGA (or w/e) to NVIDIA 590, etc.
Might be something to try... I don't know for sure if it would actually fix it, since you'd probably have to make sure there were no stale references to the vmware driver left after uninstalling it... it might make sense to create a new VM, install the vmware video drivers manually after modifying the inf, and then see what happens.
Hey cool tutorial but it also don't work for me ^^ using Vmware 8.0
did you do the video inf modification?
whats listed under display adapters inside your VM?
I got TERA to run on my MAC on a VM (Using Parallels) by doing a little registry tweaking in windows.
In the registry, go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE HARDWARE DESCRIPTION SYSTEM
make changes to VideoBiosVersion
Mine had "Parallels (R) 7.0.42 VGA*Compatible BIOS Version 3.0.2111.89721"
i replaced it with
"VGA*Compatible BIOS Version 3.0.2111.89721"
I did so with 2 or 3 references to the same thing, and it worked. Turns out it TERA checks the Video drivers registered with windows to see if its emulated / in a VM, and gives an error message. On a MY2011 iMac, running parallels with windows 7, i got about the same frame rates as if i ran it on a Sandybridge chip with the integrated HD3000 intel graphics. about 20-25fps @ medium settings.
I had TERA running farming loops on a second monitor while i was doing some work.
I followed a good 10 tutorials on line on how to do this (running win7 on virtualbox).
Got Tera to load, but crashes on startup. Im guessing it has to do with the regedit information. If anyone can speak up or PM me on this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Starting to rip my hair out on this one
is this not possible? Ive heard people getting it to work on parallels??
