General Emulator Questions:

Hi All,

Ive been around the Private Server community and owned various servers for the last 5 years for Lineage 1 and Lineage 2 (L1J, L2J), both coded in java and backend DB in MySql... its time for me to move on to Diablo 3.



My Question of preference is:


Is it best to create an emulator/Private server in C++ or Java? I see alot of emulators here in C++ but am unsure if there is a big reason behind it or not.

Every single current WoW emulator besides Wcell(C#) and WoWCore(Delphi) are based off of WoWD, which was written in C++.
The only current Diablo 3 emulator is Mooege (C#).
A lot of the newer "startup" emulators have been written in C#.

To actually answer your question; No, there's no reasoning behind 90% of WoW emulators being written in C++, they're all just forks of an old emulator.
When it all comes down to it, choose which language you're best at.

Have to agree with him, choose the language you're best at. Personally I prefer C#. Some people swear by C++ but in actuality they are equally capable and C# is getting increasingly popular. (I first noticed the mass C# spread upon the release of BlueVex, for those whom know what it is.)

Ok so obviously im totally clueless about this whole thing, but this is my search for understanding. Why is it that this game has to be re-bult/emulated in this way? I thought all games needed were to be cracked, and then have a private server to connect to. Or is it that those games (like wow private servers, etc) have already been emulated in order to function that way?

I agree. Although the thread has been cleaned up at least a couple of times, spambots still seem to be getting through and polluting the thread. On the other hand, until moderators find a way to prevent or significantly reduce the number of spambots altogether, it's nice that the bots are congregating in this relatively inactive thread and not in another thread which has a lot of activity.
