Every time when I go to change my avatar and I hit save I get "Unable to save the file" or something like that, it's very distressing because I have an epic new avatar to use.

Maybe it's your punishment, for forcing me to change mine ?
(maybe check pixels and file size, they might be to big, or try linking it from another server).
Most likely a folder permissions issue.
Are you saving it to the server(here) or referencing it from a link?
If you need me you have my skype, if you don't have my skype then you don't need me.
I've tried both ways 2d and neither work
Im have the same problem.
Same problem.
Tried to upload and to link, tried jpg, png and gif, 120x120, 100x100, 90x90, 60x60 all around 10 - 40kB well within the max limits.
Same problem here :/
Try this:
- Go to your vBulletin Admin Control Panel -> Avatars -> User Picture Storage Type
- By default, vBulletin already provides you the directories needed to store the files, and all you have to do is set the permissions of each directory to 777.
- Login to your vBulletin root via File Transfer protocol client and find the “customavatars” "customprofilepics" and "signaturepics"
- Set all the 3 directories file permission to "777"
- Go back to the "User Picture Storage Type" and click "Go"
- Click "Go" again.
- Congrats, you’ve successfully moved your avatars, profile, and signature pictures to the filesystem.
And it's as simple as that.
Same problem here.

Any update on this?
Well there are some sources saying that it could lead to a security risk, so for the time being... get over it :P
We will fix it when we are 100% sure that this wont affect the security!
