Close Friend is trying to scam me, need advice.

Hey guys,

Long story short...I believe a very close friend of mine is trying to scam me out of my longtime (and very valuable) WoW account. I have been playing less and less lately and I've let him use my account in the past. He knows enough of my info to gain control of the account and just today I found a jpg. file on my PC of a scanned picture of my actual Driver's License. I know for a 100% fact that I have never made a scan of my ID and I'm really freaked out. Luckily, he hasn't made his move yet and I've moved my valuable characters off the account to a brand new account that he knows nothing about (complete with different info/SQ etc.). My question to you guys is what should/can I do at this point? Should I have Blizzard lock/freeze the account requiring a notary? Are my transferred characters safe from him or can he still mess with those as well?

P.S. - I know the obvious answer of don't share your info with anyone, so please save that one. Sadly, no one ever thinks their trusted "friends" are going to screw them over until they do.

To be honest, I think you should be fine if you xfered your chars off the account. That is still pretty bad he got an ID scan of your drivers license. A notary definitely trumps an ID though, so you should be fine. If you're lucky you'll also have all ur cd keys to help lock up the other account.

Close enough that we were roommates for a time. I mean living with me, he had access to everything I own. I mean this has literally come out of nowhere for me. I'm just trying to keep my bases covered so that I can avoid the inevitable bomb coming my way.

Report him to the police for trying to impersonate you online then press charges NO ONE messes with your wow acc!

How much did you pay just to transfers ALL your characters across to your other account? O.o But yea, if your friend is trying to sell your account or keep it... AND has your Driver License ID.jpg on your computer.. I'd get rid of him ASAP.

Also, you should be fine if you transferred all your toons over, as long as he doesn't know your account info. Just make sure to NOT check REMEMBER ACCOUNT INFO when you log in. And in general, don't leave WoW open.. and password your computer so he has to know your password to log in!

I just transferred off my Main (IE most valuable toon) to a brand new Cata account. I don't want to risk losing him and the alts are not important to me. He def. doesn't know the info to my new account/email and he definitely isn't what I'd consider a friend anymore.

How about you just literally ask him about the .jpg and if he gets all bitchy then punch him?

My friend tried this with my diablo account, I had blizzard close it for a month, told him I quit then started playing when he stopped. I realize now I'd much rather have told him to his face what I thought of him after he tried taking my girl too, lol, haven't seen him since. I would talk to him honestly about it, watch his reaction closely. This is my personal experience though.

Well,

All has been well since I moved my toons off to a brand new account. Although, I still worry with the amount of information (ie everything you need to get an account recalled) he has he can still put in a call to blizzard and recall the account and get a unauthorized transfer or some bullshit. I called Blizzard and tried to get them to lock the account but they told me that they were unable to do anything until something actually happens.

I just hate having this in the back of my mind that he could do something even if he never does. Hopefully nothing happens.

Add an authenticator to both accounts, and don't leave them laying around/your phone laying around.
