A sit down with a gold farmer

A sit down with a gold farmer

We all know about gold farmers here on MMOwned, some of us are gold farmers and sellers ourselves, others of us buy gold, and some of us use the same methods gold farmers do for our own accounts. Well in this article I interview a gold farmer to understand more about how they work and the job they do. Now the questions in this article may seem a bit random and they may not flow, that's because I sent them to Jamie from a well known gold selling site and he translated them and gave them to one of their farmers, then translated it back and gave it to me, I then did some grammar editing and such.

I hope you enjoy reading the interview, without further wait here it is below!

Hi my name is Huang Xin

How do you make most of your gold? (botting, hand farming, ect)
I do hand farming with another man, usually level craft professions to 525 and then sell materials to make gold.

Do you work shifts or do you work casually?
My mate and I work shifts.

On average how much time a day do you spend farming or bot tending?
I used to work as a botting keeper, but now I work 9 hours per day and do farming.

About how much gold do you make per day and per week?
    8,000-10,000 or more per day.

How much do you get payed per hour or is it on commission?
On commission, I usually get 200$~300$ less monthly.

Is World of Warcraft the only game you farm for or do you farm for others as well?
    Only WoW

    Do you enjoy gold farming?
Not at all haha, played several years, so tedious.

Do you face a lot of discrimination from other players?
I seldom communicate with people in game, but I faced some. They threatened to report me.

    How often are you banned?
Not often, it’s not bannable now. But it does many before.

Do you have an individual farming account, or are accounts shared?
Shared and studio provides us accounts, I do not know the passwords though.

Do you have a personal account that you play on?
Yeah, not US or EU server though.

What do you like best about gold farming?
I do not like it at all now, might quit.

What do you dislike about gold farming?
Doing the same thing every day.

What do you think the most efficient way of making gold is? (Botting, Hand Farming, Dallies, ect)
Tbh, botting a lot of accounts is ftw. But if you want to it keep safe, do it by hand.

Why do you think the gold market has gone down in value as of late?
Don’t know, probably because WoW has been running for a long time. People get bored and many of them quit.

If there was one thing you would change about online gaming what would it be?
Hmmm. all players play in a worldwide server. lol

Is there anything else you would like to add?
    No

I hope you all enjoyed the interview, as you can see Huang Xin doesn't like his job much, but he was still nice enough to take time to do this interview. I'm not going to draw any conclusions here, because that's your job!

Once again I'd like to thank Jamie, and Huang Xin for letting me do this interview!

And normal. I know businesses who have facilities in China and only have a £25/month wages cost per person.

What you have to appreciate is that the cost of living is also much lower in China. There is also a huge gap between the rich and the poor.

Yes if they came over to the west they couldn't survive on that income, but in China it's enough. They work 6 day weeks as well normally.

Many people in China are forced into jobs like this. Not that they want them! Saw a report on AC360

They are not forced into jobs like this - they are simply easy to get. A friend of mine (Chinese Woman) owns a gold farming/selling office. A majority of the workers are Chinese girls fresh out of college. They can't immediately find jobs for their majors, so they get something easy like this and end up staying for a few years while looking for a real job.

The job market in China is tough.

    1. Prisoners are not 'many people' in China.
    2. Articles like that in the news aren't always entirely true -_-;

It's clear even by the OP that it is not something that's being forced on people. The guy can quit whenever he wants - and he wants to. He just needs to find another job!

A salary as small as that (Salary is paid monthly in China, not yearly) is enough to live and get by in China with the necessities. A minimum wage job in the U.S. in terms of salary would be middle class in China to try and give you an idea. Since the living cost is so low, so are the wages.
