There is nothing to lose but sounds a little sketchy to me. What I think he is trying to do is get rep by giving free gold. The reason? Possibly once he has some rep he can start scamming people on the site. Another reason would just be so he can actually try to find private buyers to sell gold. Those are my two theories.
