I havent used this scam in WOW - but it has been used elsewhere.

Basically we are playing a game of fantasy - so creative lying is the name of the game.

People hate grinding.

If you have a server with noobs on - you can tell them anything (sure the abailability of things like thottbot etc makes it easy for people to find out stuff - too easy in my opinion but a lot of players are lazy - or jsut plain dumb)

So this scam works on the lines of advertising an item for sale or something along th lines of "do you want double XP or a XP boost ?" Selling XP boost - if you want to level fast sont miss this chance " etc

When you get a nibble tell the player you have a special item (i have in the past said it is a bugged item) tyhat you wantying to sell for - some ridiculous amount eg 30000 gold .

This item when worn allows you to gain 5 times more XP per hour.

Do they want to buy it ?

They say no - i aint got 30000 gold (no surprise there eh ?)

So you say ah ok - who ias your guild leader - they tell you - you say ok - well i can let you hire the item for x amount of gold per day

you must give it back - if you dont ill tell your guild leader - and youll get kicked etc etc

Ok so the customer coughs up the cash - you trade them the diamond/sword/mechanical squirrel - whatever item u chose (helps if there are not 000s in the AH - even if you are telling them the item is strangely bugged !)

Obviously after about 3 minutes of levelling they come back on and say - it isnt working...

You ask where they are levelling .. thell em ... no no .. you cant level there u need to level on this mob in this province etc .. uyou dont know why but if def worksd there etc etc ...

next time they come back to you .. tell them that they will not see the double, triple etc experience becasue it only gets added after the server reboot - or in 24 hours - or even after they ahve returned the item to you (and if you cvan get away with it - paid you another 20g etc etc )

Hell ive had people on this for over 2 weeks - expecting to be max level in 5 days after the server reboot- in the mean time you are hiring your magic items out to a few other people etc efc..

So to recap.

You can vary this enormously. but you are tellign them the item is bugged - or it is "special"

It gives 5, 10, 15 times normal XP if it is worn, put in slot 6 of your bag etc etc (sometimes its fun to have em - put a piece of meat in slot 4 of their bank, and have this special item in their bags in slot 4 etc etc - just for the badness)

You might also want them to keep quiet about it - becasue the item isalready booked out for 2 months after the expansion is released and you dont want the Gms to get a sniff of it etc etc

Roflmao - seriosly it is jhillariously if u get this one to work - and it is almost worth doing just for a laugh and to see how much people can be lied to.

I mean we talking elves gnomes and magic here - fiery weapons + healing and spell damage. Why not have an item that gives + XP per hour (so secret and rare - it doesnt say what it does in green lettering)

This is easily bannable, and will most likely get you banned, not meaning to rain on your parade or anything.

Not bad for an idea, may I suggest at this point that people put (Idea) in thread title or (worked) or something like that.

with that rule any scam or lie can get you banned - it is just a ridiculous cath all rule - that really has no place in a MMOG.

As I have posted elsewhere withing the sroryline as players we kill and loot mobs in the game the game mechanics shouls not distinguish between human players and npcs, computer mobs.

If it is ok to kill and steal from mobs why can't we do it to characters controlled by us players not the game emchanics.

Under these rules guiild leaders and officers should be being banned daily- they regularly offer their members a share in rewards from raids etc - or horde drops and these actions controvene those rules too. They are riduculius clauses so fight them clamly and logically if you are banned or warned under them. Go to the top of the department, write and phone, ope na debate on relevant mmog or gaming forums and publisise the issue widely. the rules need to be changed for the good of MMORPG worlds and they are as they stand against natural justice.

That asisde - sure this scam is going to break the rules. You are not using an exploit you are simply lying to another player.

Every scam in the game is an infringement of the rules you posted (they do not apply in the EU version of the game as far as I am aware)

And moreover, with this scam - which absolutely 100% works on certain players - you just have to find that gullable player - and he has to have enough cash to make it worthwhile (although again it is as much of a laugh as it is $$$ spinner)

If someone threatened to have you banned 1. is a GM really going to enforce the rul;e for something so funny ? and 2 is the player really going to be so dumb to report they were apparently trying to use an exploit or a bug ?

All you have been "guilty" of is lying to them and trading an item for gold.

I personally doubt you would get a serious ban for this and if you did - you have plenty of grounds to appeal.

Actually further reading has revealed a discrepancy.

The paragraph you quote is indeed from the Terms of use (europe) certainly.

However if you read the policy on scamming in the EU website, that states that Blizzard will not take action against people who scam - unless it is "systematic"

So in europe anyway, the terms of use say scamming is against the rules if blizzard decide it is and their policy document says scamming will not usually be investigated etc.

bit of a catch-all there and not very clear.

You certainly have grounds to appeal although ultimately blizzard can decide what is authorized gameplay and what isnt and what "systematic" behaviour means as it pertains to scamming - and what isnt.
