    Advance Purchase Scam

This fella basically relies on creating false information relating to what irtems currently in game are going to be needed for the expansion and then selling them to "investors"

ideally, you want to create a website with lots of information and links to the expansion news etc available on the net and a section on confirmed crafting requirements for jewlecrafting or the other professions post expansion.

You try and drive "investors" to that site.

Obviously you make it all up - prefably after putting in place a purchasing program to snaffle up all the peacebllom, mossagate or whatever it is you are saying is going to be needed in the expansion and then putting it back in the AH immediately at a healthy markup.

Why wait till the expansion to make a profit selling cheap materials - do it now.

Perhaps we can brainstorm amoungst us some pausible scenrios - becasue investors like doing their reseach and for this scam to work it will need to be reasonably well organised.

TThere is no reason why you wouldnt do this accross a number of servers to buy up inexpensive materials and try to generate a pool of cash on those servers.

    Re: Advance Purchase Scam

    thats pretty smart

    "Selling [Moss Agate] x 12 10g ea!"
"why are they so much?!" <-- dumb person
"In TBC you can use them for socketed items to get +10 strength!"
    "ILL TAKE 10!"

    Re: Advance Purchase Scam

hmmm nice idea but ppl can just go to the AH and get x12 moss agate off the AH for 3g or somthing much cheaper so this would only work on an item that isn't on AH
    If i can't kill you.....I'll get someone who can....:fu:

    Re: Advance Purchase Scam

lol - only work on a nitem not in the AH ?

You are thinking far too small - if you are a scammer you should be thinking about regular scams to make regular $$ - not heres a way to make some $$ in one big hit then run off.

life is rarely like that and samming in wow is rarely like that.

This scam will work on several levels.

Yes you can trick someone int o believing item X is going to be needed in the expansion - but most players are not going to take your word for is (some will so absolutely you can get $$ for this - but you are going to have to clever and it if yiou have to regularly buy up certain commodities/items to try and inflate the market price of them - it could end up costing you $$)

If you want to try take this scam to a higher level - that imo involves several players on a server trying to foster the same rumour - eg black pearls are needed in expansion for jewelcrafting - and creating some external source to back up your claims - eg a website.

rumours fly - think of all the spods and geeks that play MMOG - desperate for friends and influence - for a player to be able to tell another players - hey i have a heads up on jewelcrafting etc - that is gold dust to these types of players who want to appear like gaming gurus etc.

create some noise and see what happens - post on thottbot etc etc - prob going to be some $$ to be made at some point and if u pay current market pprice for your alledged - must have ingredient for jewelcrafting - you can jsut resell them if all goes tio crap - and you have onkly lost some time.
