    [Conceptual Showoff] Automated terrain

    Heyho!

    Just wanted to know your opinions to that mesh (textures are not changed, only the terrain.

    Its automatically generated by some input parameters.

    Time to model: ~2 minutes setting basic filters and running creator (30 sec)
    Time to import: ~1 minute
    total time: 3 minutes

    Size: 2x2 ADT

    The hills look very realistic, still they have one or two sharp edges that need to fixed in the algorithm of creating that automated hills :P

    automated = Map Generator (like the ones for Age of Empires, or the Diablo World)

    Nah, its just taking away the part of the process thats uninteresting. Why bothering days with the lowest level of the terrain when you can do it better in some seconds? The creative part starts from this. Customizing some parts of the terrain, playcing models, trees, add special texture effects, and so on

    I agree with Cromon... doing the tedious jobs and having to shift a file between multiple tools in order to get a pleasing result is a major drag. Imagine if Photoshop was a collection of 20 different apps, some graphical and some not... Oh, I want to add a gradient fill to this polygon.. so I run my file through definepoly.exe, and then run the result through gradientfill_vertical.exe.. this is not artistry. Being free to opena file in a single tool and texture, terrain edit, manipulate wmos, m2s, holes, water... thats frees us to create masterpieces. I will grant that there are some stunning edits out there done the hard way... but the saying is.. "work smarter, not harder".

    I think its ok to make the tools easy.. yes, there will be a shitload of crappy edits released.. but there will be more masterpieces too!
