How to edit your WoW Models

Hey, I found out how to edit my models a while ago (And I have known how to make/edit stuff in 3DS Max for a while) and someone asked if its possible. It is.

WARNING : YOU CAN DO THIS IF YOU JUST WANT TO MESS AROUND BUT I ADVISE ONLY PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH 3DS MAX SHOULD USE IT.

    Anyway, heres what you do.

    1. Download 3DS MAX (Cant be bothered to find a link. Google it and you can get a trial DL or if you are one of those super cool underground people you can go get the full thing somewhere)

    2. Extract your Files. Same as model changing....Make your folders in WoW/Data and extract the files you want to edit.

    3. Download this script used for importing .m2 files into 3DS MAX and put it in your 3DS Max/Scripts folder.
    Download Here

    4. Open up 3DS MAX

    5. Go to MAXSCRIPTS (Should be a dropdown menu somewhere along the top)

    6. Open up WoWM2Import.ms

    7. Look for a line like this (Should be at the top)

    Code:
    eg. -- GLOBALS AND STRUCTURES

    global filename = "c:\\tmp\\BoneGolem.m2"
    8. Replace "c:\\tmp\\BoneGolem.m2" with the exact path of the M2 you want to edit.

    9. Go to file and click "Evaluate All"

    10. Only click evaluate all ONCE...The model appears really small so you just need to zoom in alot.

    11. Enjoy, I have made alot of cool customised models using this.

awsome! i was wondering how you could do it. +rep!
I'm partially retired from model editing. I'll still answer questions if I know the answers to them when you send them to me in a PM, but otherwise, I'm done.

Yeah there is......Its exactly the same as normal model editing after you have the changed model, just rename it to what you want replaced then put it in your speech2.mpq (See other guides if you dont already know how to do this)

It depends what you define as 'make'....If you wanted to create a model from scratch, you would need to know how to do textures and stuff for it which is qutie a bit of work....

You can open up a model of one of the noob swords (or whatever sword you please, the bigger the sword you open, the more complicated it is)
    and transform it.....

Yea well i'm a Maya user myself, have been for awhile.. I do a lot of modelling for some other games but i just didn't know if i could texture the model. I notice that while editing the MPQ files, changing models for things also requires the blp file, can this output those?

Re: How to edit your WoW Models

Sorry for necroing an old thread, but I'm really curious.

I've been able to edit models and save them as normal, but when WoW isn't loading the .max file extension. It's in the proper treepath in the MPQ, but it doesn't read it. Am I saving it wrong?

Easy enough to do, just scale the model up.

Re: How to edit your WoW Models

Hey Cush, I find this very interesting. I downloaded the script but it does not work. I have 3DS max 5, and it will not open the script. When I read what the script says, it says its for Gmax. Any ideas?
