How to make Custom Spells?

Hey, I've been glancing around the forums and I was wondering if there was a way to create custom spells? I'm guessing it would be a combination of model editing and programming, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to do this or could point me in the right direction for this. I've searched the forum and haven't come up with anything yet, so any help is appreciated. Thanks!

To answer your question completely, we would need a little more information about what exactly it is that you would like to accomplish.


If you want to create a totally custom spell it would have to be on a private server. The spell.dbc file that is located in the client is also stored in the server and thus, without editing the server you could not create a totally custom spell, unless of course you could hack Blizzard, which I wouldn't recommend looking into


However if it is looks that you are going for (i. e. the animation played when the spell is cast, the icon of the spell or the spells description) you could alter that by way of editing the client spell.dbc files and/or editing the client model files.

Ah thanks, and it is actually the first one which I am looking to do. I am not attempting to 'hack' the blizzard servers and make a new spell, but to make a new spell animation for a spell idea I have. I'll be pming you soon after I finish up with ulduar here. Thanks!
