Bots and Programs - Tutorial Section?

I've been thinking of creating a bot/program but i don't know where to start, i believe many people feel like this aswell.

This is not a repost of - http://www.mmowned.com/forums/sugges...-programs.html

Perhaps we could implement the idea of having guides to set up bots but i was more thinking of the creation of a World of warcraft bot/program, with perhaps script bins under stickys.

    Please take this into consideration,

    Regards

Problem I see is that if you have guides then everyone, and I mean everyone, will be using the SAME script/program/whatever. What does that mean? It means that Blizz has a 'LOL' easy time shutting stuff down.

It just doesn't work IMO. But I would like to hear an argument against it.

(I realize the authors could allow for some customization, but if you don't know how, then how could you customize it in the first place?)

Thats a very good point, one i did not think of. I suppose it would give blizzard an easier time cracking down on various scripts but it could also make alot more diversity in the scripts used. The diversity could create an equilibrium of new scripts and old detected ones. Because surely, if blizzard wanted to take scripts, they could merely file law suits against WoWinfinity and other various companys.

The best way to learn something is to learn it yourself. Following a guide step by step is like spoon feeding children. Do the children feel like they accomplished something? no.

I suggest you pick a coding language and than start messing with it. You have the whole internet at your disposal.

Ahahaha, that made me smile in real. (Not for any reason, its just obvious and i didn't think of it.) I will take your advice on it, i don't mean to sound stupid but would you mind recommending a language?

I also agree with the fact teaching should not be spoonfeeding the answers, but helping the pupil find the answers themselves

If you've never done any programming, and you're running a 32 bit Windows system try Visual Basic or C#. If you're on a 64 bit system start with AutoIt. Visual Studio Express edition will not compile for 64 bit systems.

Holy sweet jesus. Don't speak if you don't understand what you're talking about.

VS Express compiles fine on x64 systems.

This is constructive criticism? Very nice, great contribution to the thread.

FOR. Maybe i'm (and a thousand pages all over Google) wrong, but as far as I know (and I wouldn't, as I don't use Express) Visual Studio 2008 Express won't let you compile for x64. As the below quote says, I realize you can still do it, but if he's only starting programming I figured he should just start simple.

Microsoft Visual Studio Express - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition can be used to compile .NET as well as Win32 applications immediately after installation. However, natively compiling 64-bit applications through the IDE is not supported without some involved configurations. If the freely available Windows SDK is installed, 64-bit applications can be built on the command line using the x64 cross-compiler (Cl.exe) supplied with the SDK. [7] True integration of 64bit compilers to the Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition is possible, but remains cumbersome.

All that says is that you can't compile NATIVE x64 applications using the express edition without a lot of configuration beforehand. (That means, C/C++, not .NET)

VS Express can easily handle most everything Pro+ can. (You just lose the ability to use various plugins, and quite a few great things that come with Pro+)
