I get a lot of the same questions over and over and over again... In the beginning i happly replied to them all but as they were coming i just get more and more frustrated by clarifying them that i just kinda ignore them when i see them.
WoWInfinity was made around 9 month ago. For a good long time after the release i posted whole lot of updates since there were many things i wanted to add to the app and i add tones of spare time for the project.
When time came for my examen's the time for this project ran out and i considered it "done for now". Around that time i began looking for someone else to take over the project. (By that meaning 100% taking over the development, updates and $$ financials).
However i was and i am still unable to to find a person to take over this project.
After i came home from my summer holiday i started thinking about what to do with this project. There were 3 options.
A: Outsourcing it to someone unknown
Benefit: Could result in a continuous development, including new cool features.
Problem: Could end up in the hands of someone who just dropped the project and stopped updating the software for every new wow patch eventually killing the software for good.
B: Shutting down the project and keeping the software updated for as long as the current suscriptions was alive.
Benefit: No more trouble, No risk of Blizzards interference etc.
Problem: No updates, Nothing for the customers/Users, Etc.
C: Providing every user with the full source code for WoW Infinity + The Server, and keep the server source up-to-date for every patch being released from now and the following 360 days.
Benefit: Certainly new features and updates from the community and more freedom to the users
Problem: High risk of leak etc.
D: Keep it going and keep looking for a new person to take over.
Benefit: Maybe a new one will come and take over...
Problem: More users, More questions, well... like what have happened here since summer.
Many people told me to keep it going and as the interest for the product was still very strong i decided to keep it low for some time and go for the D solution.
Now the time have come for me to ask myself the question once again, and this time i want to hear your guys opinion.
I do have time to keep this software up to date at any time but i don't have time to sit and do RnD work and reverse engineer myself to more features.
What do you guys think? And do you have any other suggestions?
