ShoutBawx Update - Need Feedback

The ShoutBawx on OC has been a great place to socialize with your fellow OwnedCore members about anything. It has been a staple on the site for years. We got a suggestion to upgrade the ShoutBawx and we couldn't agree more but we want suggestions from the community on what features they would want.

Here are some we brainstormed:

• Better UI completely for it

• More Emoji's that are possibly unlocked with different feats such as account age, reputation tier, donator status, bawx message count?, etc

• Functions such as turning on/off PM's, seeing newly created threads, etc

• More tabs. Such as General, Classic WoW, marketplace, etc

• Customization. Things like adding a badge in front of your name which, like emojis, could be unlocked based on feats such as age, reputation tier, donator status, etc

None of these are concrete but just a start to the conversation. Feedback is necessary for a change like this so please let us know your ideas and comment on ours!

Maybe have custom tab to create your own bawx-groups w/ invites to other people?

Maybe extend the timer for the idle flag, can't think of anything else at the moment.

Working on it, I have a guy trying to integrate new software hopefully by next week.

We should be able to customize it anyway we want.

Yes to all, but id also invest time into refining the shoutbawx archives and make it more user friendly with better and more specific search functionality.

Fix: timed out + click come back + post => msg not posted. This made me abandon the shoutbox after the 4th message lost. I don't even post anymore because I know there's 50% my message won't be posted.
I see no reasons for timeout btw, get rid of that fucking thing. Do you timeout on discord/twitch/irc/slack/teams/whatsapp/facebookmsg ? no.
@user and Send message have the same icon, that's so very confusing, do something.
Reall use motd. Don't leave the same thing for 5 months. At some point you wrote jokes there, I logged in only to see the new joke.

Also for god's sake fix the issues in quick reply too. Almost abandoned writing this because of those fucking bugs.

Some revitalization of the shout box would be nice yes. Bringing new tech doesn't fix the state it's in alone, but find ways to find it more rewarding using it would be a nice idea for sure.

Maybe some of the following would be nice to consider for the dev.team/admins?
*@mention users with notification link the the shout? (also something that would be nice on the forums)
*Thanks system for useful/nice/funny shoubox comments?
* OR "Reddit-style" upvote shouts? (small corecoin reward for upvote?)
*Top 10/25 for most upvoted shouts?
*Perks for users with a high upvote ratio? (nickname icon? glow/color for shout or usrname in SB?
*Button to translate individual shouts to other languages? OC used to have a lot of Russian/Asian members..
*Shoutbox channels for member run auctions?

And possibly more, those are just from the top of my head.

i like the box the way it is. updating to a current system isn't a bad idea, but I don't see sweeping changes as necessary.

This shouldn't be left without an idle timeout, as the Bawx being on every page for every allowed user without a plausible way to cache is a significant load.
We might be able to make some adjustments to it, but disabling it entirely would be a bad idea.

I'm not telling you how to do it, and frankly I don't care what the current system is and its limitations. I'm just telling you idle/timeout is oh so bad, it isn't used anywhere else since 2010, and you should get rid of it.

You said you see no reason for the timeout, and I explained it.
You made it clear that you do not like it, but you can not just dismiss that it's there for a reason.

This thread is all about sketching an upgrade for the Bawx. I even already agreed that we should adjust the timeout.
It may well be that the technology is there, but you also have to consider that it might just not be feasible to implement on this scale.

its a shame you cant integrate a discord channel into the top of the website AS the chatbox. then u could read it from discord or the website.
