They would then put websites and services that don't pay Virgin in the "slow lane", meaning those sites would load slowly and cause most users to give up using them, feeling forced to use whatever Virgin wants to push through their network.

This is not the first time an internet provider infringes upon net neutrality, but it is the first time that an ISP so brutally states that they simply plan to limit internet access to a television-like system in which the access provider completely regulates the content you have access to.

Virgin Media has over 3.5 million customers in the UK and the real danger is that when they start applying this system to their network, all major internet providers around the globe will soon follow the trend. Because this is exactly what major ISP's have been wanting to do for years.

But we can stop it.

If the masses of the internet react against this, we will set an example of what happens when one provider tries to take away our freedom. We will make it very clear that any ISP who tries to infringe upon net neutrality will see its popularity go down the drain because the users don't accept it. And we'll see to it that only the providers who care about safeguarding our internet freedom have our support.

Speak out in any way you can and spread the word.

If you don't believe it then we can not do a thing about it. This is the reall deal, and i thought i would share it with you all.

Well thinking like that isn't going to get us anywhere. We just need to Let EVERYONE know whats up and tell them how this will change the way we live as we know it.

-Warcraft will change because it will have lower bandwidth then others- If blizzard doesn't pay- Witch if this did happen they would But lets say they didn't. Warcraft will have such a low bandwidth that no one would be able to play it anymore. And that would mean No More warcraft. And for for some reason ( not my own) some people can't live without it. Yes sadly that is true. But- Thats not all. Youtube- Community sites. Forums. Wiki's Every website that doesn't pay Virgin will not have high enough bandwidth to be able to use. IF People don't like it and will leave Virgin for it that Virgin wont do it. Simple as that. But if people are lazy ass's and don't even care. We could be seeing changes a lot sooner then we think.

This will change our lives for internet users and would never be the same.

ISPs of any sort drastically oversell their bandwidth. If a connection can handle X number of users running at full speed 24/hours a day, then it can hand X*2 running at full speed 12/hours a day.

The problem is that MOST users until very recently ran 3-4 hours a day and even then didn't use their full bandwidth. Companies like Comcast realized that Internet speeds and usage figures were picking up and since they had to install new hardware anyways, they over installed by a significant figure.

With things like Youtube, Bit torrent, and streaming porn the average user (not just "extreme users like most on this forum,) now uses a greater percentage of their total bandwidth. The big companies like AT&T and Virgin actually don't have much of a revenue stream from the ISP side of things. Worse yet they also control the biggest pipes, the ones connecting countries or here in the US the Seattle-SF-Washington DC-New York pipes that 90% of the countries Internet runs on.

AT&T and Virgin though really missed the ISP revolution. Sure they made money by selling bandwidth to Corporations, but they failed by relying on Peer-to-Peer agreements with other companies too much and failing to realize that Internet growth was an exponential growth curve, not a smooth one.

The only problem now is to try to get the people who DOnt care, and think this is a scam, or that it is not true to believe. The more people who DONT believe then the more chances Virgin has to get their idea out there. The more people who switch away from Virgin in the next year will impact their decision.

I would like to add.

AS OF RIGHT NOW THIS DOSE NOT APPLY IN NORTH AMERICA--- Yet

Lets say Virgin comes out with the idea because the majority of internet users were lazy and idn't care. If virgin makes loads of cash off of it. Then othere compains (AKA from USA CANADA MEXICO) Will do the same. But even if they don't do the same the internet will still be a hard place to get around because we loss most of the UK to this madness. Many of our friends from the UK and other Virgin controled areas- we wouldn't be able to contact them anymore unless we use the Virgin sites. And soon as we all know if the Internet will be not connected as we no it as today.

I am Bumping this thread because it needs to be heard. I thank all 145 of you people who viewed this for Seeing this and thinking about it. We have made a difference already. Virgin is giving people extra bandwith now for stay with them because so many people are switching off from it. This is a first step into are freedom.
