    Is Scamming Dead?

I'm still getting annoying and badly designed spam mails from phishers and YouTube videos using Flying Piggy's GMPH are still being uploaded, but by now I would've guessed, the whole thing died out.

With the changes made to WoW like the authenticator etc, has it become resistant to scamming or is there still a real scene à la MSA?

Don't worry, it's merely out of curiosity.

Innovation died in that aspect when it was removed from here.

Not sad to see it leave.

Yeah, creativity was surely gone when MMOwned closed the section.

Anyways, do people on forums like markeedragon still get scammed half the time or is it finally safe to trade?

It will never be safe to trade.
There always will be scammers. Whether here, or anywhere.

Do your research, and take your time.

Anyway, the section mentioned is what was the "scamming" section. People posted scams. What it was originally designed for was in-game WoW scams. But it went on to things like phishing, and then RMT scamming, and such. It was removed, as it went far beyond what it was originally put there for.

Use gmail, they only pop up in your spam folder which barely anyone checks these days.

My guess is that the bigger ones of today and the GMPH maybe net ~10 accounts per day. Everything else would amaze me about people's stupidity.

The to all my knowledge by far most successful scam considering raw amounts (in 2008 about 0.075% of all accurate account data of the global WoW population went through it at some point), which was able to accumulate many hundred accounts per day for a time back then, is now basically getting no traffic anymore. The new owner wasn't able to successfully use it's potential and abandoned it somewhen towards the end of '09. Varied and new scams of this sort won't be able to be that successful anymore because of new security measurements taken by the traffic generating pages and because the hype and mystery around that concept is long gone. And I wouldn't expect any new big scams to come up since it isn't profitable for anyone anymore. Account prices dropped from ~$25-15 to ~$0.5 (depending on buyer) within just a few months. I don't know the prices today, but I don't think they went up again.

All that spam is rising from the ancient, and probably automated, ruins of a long gone era. And maybe from the hopeless works of a few pubescent h4x0rz.

(For those that don't know: The targets of the GMPH, the players, didn't lose anything. No one took any serious harms in the unmodified processes since accs usually were only used for stuff like farming or seldomly for promotions)
