First of all: Wall of text
Second of all: I did search the forums to see if anyone had made a post about this, imo, awesome app for windows and i couldn't find one; so im sorry if this is a repost - but I did, as I've already stated, used the lovely search function - so flame me if you feel like it 'cause I dont really give a damn, as all I'm trying to do is contribute.
And third: I'm really tired now that I'm writing this so spelling mistakes probably will occur here and there as well as sentnces you probably will not understand at all.
Rainmeter's websites description of the app:
"Rainmeter is a Windows customization application. Empower your desktop with an expandable library of useful tools – handy notes and application launchers, weather and feeds from the web, system status and more. Then, rearrange and modify them to suit your personal style. With Rainmeter, your desktop is finally yours."
If that didn't give you a picture of what it is (as well as the title) then here's what you can do with it:
RainMeter uses diffrent kinds of skins - can be found under "configs" - and depending on what skin it is; it'll show you stuff such as a system monitoring box where you can see all from how much of your CPU's ur computer is using atm to your up and down internet traffic - as I said: it's skin/"config" dependable - and you can "attach" these apps/skins/configs to your desktop wallpaper making them click throughable.
Except that you'll be able to find that most skins have some sort of watch and other useful stuff such as media player play,pause/stop,forward and backward buttons (though don't make them click throughable as you won't be able to use the buttons then).
Most of the apps are either in a "bunch" or seperate, meaning; either you have to click on every single app for the to show (HDD1 - thus just showing HDD1, and then HDD2 just showing HDD2 and so on) or you just click on a "system" config showing you all of these in one config/app (by system I mean that you get HDD1,HDD2, up and down traffic and so on in just 1 box) the later option is the one i prefer the most as it's easier to move around than just each app/config by itself.
I probably should of written this ealier but this program is FREE and there's no such thing as a "premium" version of it.
If you are intrested in downloading this application just google on "Rainmeter" and "Rainmeter skins", thoough it comes with quite a good skin, imo.
The app/program is for windows and works for atleast Windows XP and any (as far as I know) Windows 7 beta version's (using Win7Beta7100 myself) - both 32bit and 64bit versions of the OS'.
HINT: if you are searching for the official website it's a .net domain (and whats to be written in front of that is kind of obvious).
-= Might add images later, though you'll find plenty of them if you just search for "Rainmeter" or "Rainmeter skins" on google =-
