How much do you have to spend? That's really the question.
I actually run an i7, 6gigs and GTX 280 on my desktop already setup for overclocking, even though I haven't done it yet. I love it. Cost me a few bucks though. 212FPS with max settings in WoW out by myself. About 40fps at full settings in Dal after my addons.

If you're talking about $800 USD, you might as well give up the i7 idea. The 920 alone is $250.

If you want a comp for $800 excluding a monitor I would go AMD.
What once was Moonblade rose from the ashes as Apple Pi!

just go down to your local computer repair shop and ask some questions. I had no idea what to do to build my own, they pointed me in the right direction and gave me a lot of helpful hints.

This is pretty much how I did it when I was a kid. I went to Best Buy with $800 in my pocket looking at computers. The guy said "You seem to know alot, you think you could build one?" I said "sure why not" Then he handed me a card to a computer parts store outside MIA and I got all the parts I needed. The people there barely spoke english (they were japanese), but they were alot of help none-the-less.

well i was checking on craigslist and i got a guy who said the following

"But, I can build a dual core rig with 4-Gigs of RAM and a decent gaming card for $340"

so ima see what he can come up with and probably buy it, but im thinking of getting 64bit xp, but i hear its buggy can anyone verify otherwise?? i hate vista its such a carebear OS...

I'm posting this on XP64 from a laptop. It's REALLY hard to find drivers for it. But, after hours of trying to get this one to work the only thing I'm lacking is sound... which is really no big deal to me. My other computers have sound if I need it.

I would suggest Server 2008 if you're looking for something with an XP feel. Server 2008 is by far my favorite Windows OS. It's based off Vista, but it feels and is as stable as XP. You'll have trouble finding drivers for that too and if you do, Vista 32bit drivers work fine in most cases.
