This is a great lighting technique for use in sigs and other art. Below is an example of a signature with this style of lighting.


The tool in the picture is the gradient tool. It is used for a number of different things. In this case we will be using it to blend from a solid color to transparency.
Use the settings in the picture below. The solid>transparent gradient map is under the default gradients and will change to match your current foreground color. The colors green, orange and pink work well with this technique.

Click + drag and a ball of color will appear, similar to the one on the left. Set this layer on either Linear Dodge, or Color Dodge.
The placement of this is important. You want to only use this where there is already natural light from your stock or c4d.

For added lighting, use the same gradient technique, but with a darker color. Set the layer on Multiply.
