    [QUESTION] Professional turn base RPG

    Hello MMowned,

    I would just like to run passed you with a quick question. Ok. Me and some college buddys are planning on making a full length feature turn-based rpg game. We have artists to draw out the characters and weapons and spells ect....

    But i just need to ask you a quick question. When our artists draw the characters... and we want to animate them, make them run or swing there sword or cast magic ect... Is there a way we can do this by using a still image? Or will our artists have to draw everything frame by frame? Is there anyway to draw it on a graphics tablet or on a peice of paper, scan that image in and animate it through flash? Or will they have to manually do it themselves on every slide?

    it sounds like something that needs to be done frame by frame, i could be wrong but i think that's what needs to be done.

    if it a 2d side scroll yes, frame by frame.

    udk has the abilities to do 2d or isometric gameplay if you ever want to consider it. Showcase - Epic UDK

    Well when they make films like Family Guy or simpsons
    or even games like this Epic Battle Fantasy 2

    They get the artists to draw it frame by frame? They dont draw the base character and then theres a way (maybe bone tool in adobe flash) to make it animate?

    Or maybe it would work if they drew the body, legs, head, arms ect on there own. Have them on different layers, then i can just scan it into computer, and then animate it like that because i will be able to make the arm move ect...

    But i was thinkin more, elbows to move or crouch down and stuff.. You guys understand me?

    As for udk, we will be making all the game in Adobe Flash... I will be using Action Scripts to code the battle system and stuff so a game developing software will not be needed.

    Personally in a 2d animation class atm for my bach degree in game art. Just like the movies it is vastly done with keyframing and then a low level intern comes in to do in-betweens. Won't be much different as you will need to do the in-betweens manually if the system you are thinking of doesn't work or, doesn't look good. (which is highly possible since automatic things break down/don't give the best result.)

    Was that game developed/made in flash? Or Java :S
