Why are you looking forward to SWTOR?

    Hi all,
just a quick question/poll for you all. What about SWTOR is it that attracts you?
Personally I think the game is really over-hyped, but I haven't had a chance to play it, so this is just the impression I get from reading reviews and watching Youtube videos.
But apparently the game is very cookie-cutter, that is, it doesn't do anything innovative other than the storyline. It is still boring press numbers on your keyboard combat, same old quests, boring graphics and yet everyone is going nuts about it, like it's going to be the most innovative game ever.

So what are your reasons for liking SWTOR?
Is it the gameplay you're looking forward to?
    The innovative storyline system?
Is it just cos it's Star Wars?
Or, like me, do you think it's hyped up and a lot of people are going to be dissapointed?

The innovations are very little things people shouldn't really be excited about like full voice overs, story driven quests, the reason it's so hyped is because it's freaking star wars! After star wars galaxies flopped many mmo players really want another star wars mmo, at least I do. And the word spread like wild fire about this, also you not only have star wars fan boys who are excited but also bioware fan boys. There could be some good new things about it but I think the main reason is people really want a Star Wars mmo where they can fling lightsabers around in realistic combat, and shoot guns.

TL;DR Bioware has massive fanboys, Star Wars has massive fanboys, that + EA's wallet = gold mine

added the poll: I think it will be good since the leveling is not just hack'n'slash like the other mmos out there, plus I love the star wars storyline and believe that the game can be massive - if made correct... furthermore i am hoping to make some easy $$$ of it, like i did with wow, aoc, rift and aion

The combat system didn't look all THAT great to me, the environment looked spectacular though. If it doesn't live up to my expectations I will still be able to make $$ off it.

The game plays exactly like it WANTS to be WoW - but not wow of today, WoW of 2004. I like the game, but **** me it's like they looked at wow and said "let's ignore EVERY mistake wow has made, so we can make it ourselves and learn the hard way". It's good atm, but it gets boring fast, it is exactly like wow of 2004. Combat is very simple, certain classes such as Jedi Knight/Sith Warrior feeling extremely repetitive. Others are underpowered while soloing because they don't get their best companion for ages, while others get their best companion as their first one. The questing, once you get past the dialogue, which btw, for any non-class quest is the exact same for every class of your faction (well, occasionally they might refer to you as a Jedi Knight or a Trooper, but that's as unique as they get), it's just boring basically - they don't even have basic escort type quests, there are only two types of quests in TOR - KILL LOTS OF SHIT, or Go somewhere and push a button, and possibly still kill lots of shit. Half the game is "phased" - which is not WoW phasing, it's more like wow instancing, so you're spending a lot of the time feeling like you're in a single player game instead of an MMO. Don't get me wrong, It's fun at first, but rolling a new class won't be any more unique or different than it is to roll another class in WoW. Some of the story is really good, but other parts are just meh. The combat and gameplay is, as any Bioware game, slow and clunky, filled with animations that slide your character here and there to get into place to stab that light saber through someone - when they actually line up perfectly, they look awesome, even more so in groups, but you're often seeing things that just look retarded too, which gets worse in PvP when you're doing a 4-6 second long animation of stabbing the guy and he's already off, so you just are left looking like a retard stabbing thin air.

The graphics are extremely stylised, and so are no where near as demanding as most games, the textures of things are fairly low quality, but because it's so stylised, it looks good. Character models are generally well done, but then, there are only 8 in game. Super thin male or female, looks like a malnourished teen, average athletic male or female, super huge body builder male or female (female I swear though is the same one as the male for this body type), and then the fat male or female. Aside from non-human creatures, every humanoid uses one of these, even humanoid aliens, it's not a problem, but considering for females there are only 2-3 hair styles with their hair down (the rest is up in some crazy Leia Esque type buns or in some other way wrapped all over the place), I've seen many many females that end up just looking the exact same. Oh, and Bioware still cannot do Blonde hair to save their lives, I have no idea what the **** it is, but it always looks like some yellow sick colour instead of blonde in Bioware games.

Actual gameplay wise, I'd say it's no more interesting than Rift atm. Certainly has no chance of competing with wow, frankly, unless the next few months show some major changes and improvements, I'd be surprised to see it last a year. Having said all this, I have Pre-ordered and can't wait for it, cause at the end of the day, it is Star Wars, and I did enjoy it a lot, it is ****ing awesome to blow shit up as a Trooper, but I'm not sure how long I will play it when it comes out - but that all depends on the final product, which the version I played, is clearly far from.

Haha Amen on the money front, only thing I'm really looking forward to about this game is botting it <----yes you have permission to hate me.
I'm curios (no pun intended) what do you mean by the leveling is not just hack'n'slash? The combat is the same as WoW/RIFT/every standard MMO, but there's no auto-attack iirc, which really isn't all that innovative.

Haha I love this review! Confirmed a lot of things I thought about the game already, yet you're still hanging out for it which is way cool

In WoW it is often much faster to simply grind your way through instances or mobs than doing quests.. this will not be the case in sw:tor according to the beta Q&A

I need a wow alternative, i am hoping this does it finally.
I tried rift and other mmo's but they don't cut it....i need something new not a clone or a cheap ripoff.

I am finally hoping i can forever delete wow and not look back.

Well the beta servers are coming back online this Tuesday, so I will be able to test some more

But really, the storyline and graphics are really impress to me. I have never played an MMO and gotten so sucked into the story. I feel more attached and personal to my level 25 Jedi Guardian than I do to any of my WOW characters I've played over the past 5 years. The combat is similar to WOW, but maybe simpler and more fluid. Someone on the beta testing forums made a great quote I liked: "Even if SW:TOR fails as an MMO, I would still pay to play it as the next KOTOR 3-6." And its true, you could sit there and feel like its a console game at times.

Cant wait till Tuesday to play it more

I think it is going to be a massively successful mmo. With 100m invested into it and a name like star wars behind it you better bet your ass. SWG shutdown so anyone who played that will automatically be switching. Many bored wow players will give it a shot. (*Cough* runescape?)

I think on release it will get ATLEAST 1mil subscribers. I think with a game as popular as star wars it's gonna bring some bigger numbers to the mmo scene which will atleast help everyone in general. The numbers will only rise from then on. Not a wow killer by any means but this game is very likely to become #2 and depending on it's success may some day *eventually* take over.

Personally I'm looking forward to the game. I might quit wow depending on how it turns out. If anything get a max level on TOR and sell it to make some money for trying the game. Fresh marketplace to start controlling from the beginning... Yeah, I'm not gonna lie... I'm pretty stoked

Interesting ideas, I'm still not sold, I mean the launch will be huge but post-launch I'm not so sure. Also SWG is a compleeeeeetely different game to SWTOR, SWG is a sand-box and that's mainly the reason people play it, SWTOR is a complete theme-park and is usually what players who are playing sand-box games are trying to escape. Also SWG is proof that a game can have a huge launch and a very unsuccessful future!
