Ok, I figured it out.
I instaleld VMWare Workstation 14 initially.
Then upgraded to 16 pro.
The VM (win10) was installed using WS14.
Shut down the VM, right click it in the library, click manage > change hardware compatability.
select VMware workstation 16.
Launch the VM, and POE works.
maybe useful if anyone has the same issue in the future.
If you are JUST opening multiple clients (and not doing anything else), you can just run the client in Windows more than once. I do it all the time to run 2 accounts regularly.
