There is no anti-afk mechanics in the game. It was just coincidental you didn't happen to DC last night with your chat window open like that, because nothing in the game's code changes with that scenario.
When you get disconnected, it's typically due to the instance you are connected to crashing, or your network d/c'ing (or lag spiking long enough for the server to think you d/c'ed.)
I fell asleep last night with my character in Twilight Strand, over 10 hours just sitting there doing nothing and it was fine. Likewise, with just standing in the middle of town when I forget to close my clients.
I hardly ever have disconnect issues with the game, and I play over wireless too!
The disconnection issues are usually with the server and yeah, the server doesn't have an anti-afk system that will reduce their load by lots.
I stay connected pretty much 24/7, I usually afk outside of town with a portal scroll up. Longest I was consecutively connected was about 72 hours, from one patch to another lol.
And they are right, there is no afk code in place yet, people coming back not in the game was cause of restarts/patches/dc's.
