to dye a weapon in neverwinter follow these steps

1. choose change appearance on an armour piece.
2. place dye in slot
3. click change appearance on weapon
4. commit changes


when step 3 is done the dye will stay in the slot and the weapon will replace the armour.....presto you just dyed a weapon

You can dye weapons normally, half the time it errors and tells you they can't be dyed, half the time it just straight up lets you. I discovered the same thing as you then told a friend who said he just dyed his weapon normally.

I've found that as long as you have the dye of choice in your backpack it will work flawlessly, it will not work if you have it in your bank however because then it'll say "Weapons cannot be dyed."
